Due to the ban in the near future
of R-22 based units and the phase out of R-22. PURON is
the future. The R-22 systems are going to way of the
dinosaurs. The heating and air-conditioning industry has
taken action to insure a safe future for our children.
By removing the gases from our industry that contribute
to the global warming effect and to ozone depletion.
Carrier (the worlds largest heating and air-conditioning
manufacture) along with Copeland (the compressor
manufacture and Allied Chemicals have developed PURON
and the high efficient equipment to put it to work or
you...PURON is a refrigerant that has earned the GREEN
SEAL and ENERGY STAR for being environmentally safe.
Carrier has several items to fit your individual needs.
Whether you need an air conditioner or a heat pump,
Carrier has a full line of energy saving units. We here
at Maynards having been factory trained and being
authorized Carrier dealer, we have more experience with
this new product due to the fact that Carrier was the
first to put their PURON unit on the market. Since 1995
Carrier has had PURON in the field and Copeland has
stated that this is their most successful compressor to
date. With four years more experience working with PURON
than any other manufacture in the United States. Carrier
is the clear choice. Call us for your heating and
air-conditioning needs. |
As the demand for the residential
refrigerants increases, the production of R-22
will decrease sharply in less than six years.
Production is capped at 15 million tons per year
from 1996 through 2003. However, actual
consumption in 1996 was 12 million tons. Despite
the cool summer, consumption increased in 1997 to
12.95 million tons, roughly 85 percent of cap.
Beginning in 2004, the HCFC cap will be reduced 33
percent to 10 million tons per year, far below the
demand of 1997. As you can see the phaseout of
R-22 begins now. |

|
The most significant increase
in R-22 is expected just prior to 2004, when the
production cap is reduced 23 percent below the
projected 1998 demand. As R-22 is phased out,
consumers who purchased a product containing PURON
will benefit due to a lower cost for future
service. On the other hand, those who purchased an
R-22 product can expect to feel the high price
associated with service as the supply of HCFC's is
depleted. | |
| As the consumption increases
and the production decreases, the price of R-22 is
expected to skyrocket, just at the case of R-12.
As you can see in the chart, the price of R-12
rose dramatically as a result of its depletion.
Due to its depletion the wholesale cost of a 30lb
cylinder of R-12 increased 650% between 1990 &
1997. |
